Nowadays, our world allows us to work with people without having to consider the borders between countries. However, how do we adapt in this world with that many barriers such as language, culture, working style, values, etc. How do we overcome those differences to be able to achieve our goals? In charge of the Asia Pacific IT Department at Liberty Insurance, Mr. Hung said that using Agile methodologies was one of the important key that has helped them work in a more effective way. Let’s talk about Agile working without borders.

DEFINITIONS OF AGILE WORKING

  • Paul Allsopp’s says that “Agile working is about bringing people, processes, connectivity and technology, time and place together to find the most appropriate and effective way of working to carry out a particular task. It is working within guidelines (of the task) but without boundaries (of how you achieve it).”
  • Unilever defines agile working as “an approach to getting work done with maximum flexibility and minimum constraints. It goes beyond just flexible working or telecommuting and focuses on eliminating the barriers to getting work done efficiently.”

Engaging with your workforce and empowering people that demonstrate trust and responsibility are the keys. Agile working is not a new trend, but many companies in Asian countries, especially in Vietnam, still have not applied it in a correct way or have just not started using it yet.

If you follow us, you may know that Apiumhub has been working with Agile methodologies for more than 15 years now and has a team of agile experts in Europe. Now, Apiumhub Vietnam applies it too, and guess what? It runs perfectly.

If you don’t really know about Agile, I invite you to read more about it here.

By using Agile methodologies, you face and solve “small failures/small problems” instead of ” big failures/big problems”. Why? You probably know that when you work in an Agile way, you work with sprints and user stories. In each sprint, you can find many user stories insight and to complete each sprint, you have to work on each user story one by one. So if you “fail”, you fail one small user story. And as Agile implies continuous integration, this means that you can easily fix this failure as fast as possible.

When we’re talking about Agile, we’re not only talking about software development, it is also useful for marketing and other departments (you can read about it here) This is just one benefit of agile working, you can discover more in our blog with many interesting articles from agile experts and other topics as UX Design and tech tips.
